Summer Safety Tips

Happy Fourth of July! Here are some tips to keep in mind this holiday weekend (and throughout summer) to stay safe while enjoying the outdoors.

• Learn how to prevent recreational water illnesses to help protect yourself and your kids
• Always supervise your children when in or around water. Drownings are the leading cause of injury death for young children.
• Be sure to follow all regulations and wear properly fitted life jackers every time you partake in recreational boating.
• Never leave infants, children or pets in a parked car, even if the windows are cracked open.
• Schedule outdoor activities in the morning and evening hours to avoid the sun's peak hours.
• Use sunscreen with at least SPF 15 and UVA and UVB protection each time you or your child go outside.
• Seek immediate medical care if your child has systems of a heat-related illness. 
• Use an effective insect repellant when playing outdoors.
