This month is National Preparedness Month, so there is no better time than now to create your own disaster plan. At the very least, you should have an Emergency Preparedness Kit with the essentials for at least 3 days for your entire household. It never hurts to take the extra step and include extra supplies like a small tool kit or games to entertain your family. Also, it is essential to have a plan. Decide what kind of disaster could take place and base your plan around it. After you have made your plan, make sure that your family also is aware of it and practice your plan.
The American Red Cross offers useful information to find out what you need to do and why it is important to prepare yourself in the event of an emergency. On days like these, Southern California Edison offers "Save Power Days" to help save power across Southern California. On a Save Power Day, customers are encouraged to reduce their power usage from the hours of 2 and 6 pm. If their usage is below their average, then they will earn credit towards their energy bill.
Here is a list found on the SCE website of ways to save energy:

They don't know the harmful injuries that could result from playing with or touching electrical outlets. Paul Netter at Southern California Edison recently put out an article about the subject and why it is so important. Teaching children about electrical safety from even as young as four, can save many from becoming shocked or burned.
"Nearly seven children a day are treated in emergency rooms for electric shock or burns caused by tampering with a wall outlet, according to the Electric Safety Foundation International. In 2007, over 98,000 children ages 14 and under were treated for burn injuries in emergency rooms. The most common causes of burn injuries among kids 14 and under are hair curlers, curling irons, room heaters, ovens/ranges and irons." SCE offers programs to children ages 4 and up on electrical safety in fun ways, such as coloring books, DVDs and activity books. It has seemed to be an effective way to educate children on electricity. But, it also important for parents to teach and keep their kids safe at home. “You just have to make sure to educate them as a parent,” Messner said of kids. “[Electricity] is a wonderful resource that makes our society better. You just have to respect it.” Children are becoming more aware and less likely to injure themselves once they have been properly educated.
